Dear Friend,

It’s that time of year when we all start to think about New Year resolutions. Some of us will want to lose weight, drink less, or maybe find a new job. Be what it may, New Year resolutions are a symbol of acknowledgement, commitment, and a readiness to take action.

As we look around us we see a society that is falling apart at the seams and a generation that is hurting. Our generation is feeling the brunt of the coalition’s cuts. Many of us, our friends, and our colleagues will start the New Year worried and concerned about the year to come. For many, the disorientating grey fog of joblessness, debt, and despair conceals any sign of hope or change. To turn on the TV is to watch every media outlet beaming visions of helplessness and despair in the face of turbo capitalism’s insatiable demands. But at Compass Youth we know there is a silver lining, we know there is an alternative.

The Good Society is a society where all generations have equal access to services, where the market works as the servant of society, and where we all have the chance to feel valued, included, and fulfilled. It’s a society where access to housing, education, and health are seen as human rights and where democracy is at work at every level.

As you sit down to make your new year’s resolutions, consider making one a greater commitment to campaigning with Compass Youth. Whether it’s helping with events, joining our team on the Choose Youth campaign, or attending more committee meetings, in 2012 together we can be the change!

Happy New Year,

Will Cass
